A big first for Kate and me this summer- she went to spend a week at Camp Glisson! It was love at first mention of camp, really. She was so excited to go and she had an amazing week. She is familiar enough with camp since we visit about once a year, but obviously going with other campers and counselors adds a new element. She was so anxious to meet her bunk mate and become best friends with her and wanted to know if they had Color War at camp, just like she had read about in books about summer camp. Spending a full week away from home didn't seem to phase her a bit and I actually was so excited for her that it didn't seem to phase me either! Here's Kate as we got ready to drop her off.

Overall, her favorite activity was the zip line. She was also very excited about the fact that she didn't have to eat vegetables if she didn't want to (and she didn't!). She talked about how great she did at archery (despite the fact that she didn't actually hit the target) and how much fun she had at Singing on the Porch. She keeps talking about all the fun things her counselors did and how she will work there one day herself. I was so pleased to find out at drop-off that she'd be sharing a bunk my friends' daughter (hi Amanda and Randolph!)-- another camper with a bit a Glisson in her DNA. Taking Kate to camp is like taking her home- a place that has seen me grow and learn and loved me unconditionally through it all. I hope that it can feel the same for her.

After the week was over, we gathered her up and spent the night with other dear Glisson friends (who also had a daughter at camp that week). Fun times! Always thankful for this family's friendship with ours!

Ah, this post makes me all teary an nostalgic... and also makes me feel quite old. How can you have a daughter who is Camp Glisson age?
I'm so glad that she had a great time.
Elisabeth, I know! It would be fun to have a few more weeks as summer staff as a twenty-something. We'll be camping near Asbury Hills this weekend with the Moores and some other friends.
